Designer Courses runs short courses in design and making leather fashion accessories throughout the year in London.

We offer short evening and weekend courses in leather accessories design and making techniques, alongside a summer school and options for one-to-one tuition. All our courses take place in in a beautiful gallery studio in Hampstead, north London. 

Designer Courses leather accessories courses take a practical, hands-on approach - the emphasis is on classic handworking techniques combined with a keen eye for contemporary design. We provide patterns to work from, while encouraging individual creative development and material experimentation.
 
Subjects covered include:

  • How to source, select and treat leather for different accessory products
  • Leather accessory design development and pattern-cutting
  • Moulding and wet forming vegetable-tanned leather
  • Surface manipulation including embossing, stamping,carving, foiling, stud work, intrecciato weaving, embroidery and many more decorative accessory techniques
  • Advice on choosing machinery, tools and equipment and accessing manufacture

Leather accessory projects include:

  • Bags and purses
  • Laptop and phone cases
  • Light leather goods including wallets, belts, card holders, coin carriers, boxes
  • Cycling accessories
  • And many more…

WHAT MAKES DESIGNER COURSES SPECIAL?

The key is in the title – design.  All our courses have a strong emphasis on individual design development: “I am passionate about the role of creativity in people’s lives. Instilling the confidence, at every level, to create original ideas is one of the things that I enjoy most” says leather designer and author Katherine Pogson, who founded Designer Courses in 2005.
