Designer Courses runs a unique series of courses in how to design and make leather gloves throughout the year in London.
Katherine Pogson is currently one of very few peope in the UK offering practical short courses in how to make fitted gloves by hand in fine leather. Our short evening and weekend courses take place in a beautiful gallery studio in Hampstead, north London.
Katherine has studied the vanishing art of table-cutting at one of the last remaining leather glove factories in Britain, encouraged by Cornelia James, glove-maker by Royal Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen. There are fewer than 20 trained table-cutters left in the UK and Katherine has been learning from craftsmen with over forty years experience.
Course content includes how to:
- Identify the different parts of a traditional glove pattern
- Adapt a glove pattern-block to fit your own hand
- Select, source and prepare fine leather for glove-making
- Master three different stitches for hand-sewing fine leather
Our comprehensive introduction also includes a rich visual resource of historical and fashion images for inspiration, slide shows of factory visits including information on machinery and processes, and advice on tools, equipment and other resources.
Our students include beginners, improvers, designers from other disciplines and emerging accessory design businesses. Group sizes are small, allowing plenty of time for individual attention.
We have these glove design and making evening and weekend courses scheduled for 2017:
